I do not want to be a party pooper, but so far the bands mentioned in this forum are kind of "soft" (i did not want to say "lame", but there it is).
Want to listen to a real band? listen to Opeth. Check "ghost reveries" for example...isn't that the best *filtered*ing album released so far this year or what???? a future cl*filtered*ic indeed.
Musical dexterity, Intensity, Wit, Melody and most of all a lot of balls. That is what rock is all about!

Opeth its good (except for the growlings) but the best prog metal band for me is Dream Theater, and for me the 70`s prog bands are very superior to Opeth.

See, the good think about music is that everybody has valid opinions (after all they are opinions).

There are lots of great bands from the 70's. Some of them still making great music, some others with their mojo dissapearing. Surely, it's good to have an opportunity for new bands (like Opeth) and, IMHO, just enjoy what you like about it...

There are times for nostalgia and times for discovering...

Check out "new bands" like Flower Kings or Porcupine Tree (or for brand new bands "Beardfish" as an example) things are going different nowadays, I can't expect to have masterpieces from the 70's being made these days... I prefer to think that music has evolved, like it or not, so let's find our adventurer inside and give the new music a try... there ARE musical masterpieces these days...

Yeah, there are a very good new bands today like The Flower Kings, PT, Mars Volta, (and the Prog scene in Mexico is VERY VERY Excelent IMO, just Opeth is not the GREATEST band on the new prog scene, but that is just me, anyway they are very good.

My dear caboracho, I didn't mean to say Opeth was THE best band around. There are way many more bands out there. 70's prog is the best! I agree 100%

I sill like Opeth better than Dream Theater though...
